Yoga Teaching By Master Mehrdad – As a Yoga teacher and student who has been teaching since 1993 in St. Pete, Florida and I have been practicing yoga asanas and meditation when I was 14 year old until now. Throughout my teaching I worked with so many students with various needs and joint injury at my Martial Arts studio.
Today Yoga is very commercialized and anyone is able to become certified as a yoga instructor regardless of their background. Many often portray themselves demonstrating a fancy move on social media to impress viewers for more likes, but this is not real yoga. Unfortunately students are teaching students. To learn real yoga poses and understand the benefits of Yoga, you need a real guru or shaman to teach this 5000 year ancient Art. Yoga is about understanding yourself, to better yourself and also the connection between your body and the universe. It is a life journey, not just an exercise class or a sweaty heated room. Yoga teaching is about life wisdom, unconditional love and maturity.
Yoga Teaching By Master Mehrdad
As a child, I was always very active, highly energetic and I loved to train hard and challenge myself to see how far I could push myself. When I was 13, I hurt my back and that lead to sciatic pain and I lost all my flexibility. I went to numerous doctors for my pain and they all wanted to give me medication. It wasn’t until I met a soccer Sports Doctor (Dr. Payvandi) that I discovered an alternative to medication. He told me I had a vertebrae separation on my spine from intense weight lifting and his suggestion was stretching with yoga poses to cure the problem.
My journey into Yoga began at the age of 14 when I began to explore yoga and ultimately learn about willpower. I was able to cure my back completely after one year and I got more powerful and more flexible than ever before. I use my willpower for everything in life and I’m not afraid to take a risk! This is what I teach today to my Yoga students and my Martial Arts students as well.
What is Yoga Really?
Let’s really ask this question to ourselves… what is yoga really? Yoga is a group of physical, mind and spiritual practices or disciplines. It is not a sport, an exercise to lose weight, or a fad. It is a way of life to enlighten yourself, become more humble and carry on the spiritual teachings. First you have to be a student, a follower, a disciple and then a Yoga teacher.
I always teach my Martial Arts students and Yoga students that in order to understand Yoga or Martial Arts. First you have to understand the culture and free yourself from the material world. I believe strongly you have to have life experience and many years of learning before you can call yourself a “Teacher”.
