I have two boys, Steven 11 years old and Chad 9 years old. They love all sports and are extremely involved having played team sports since the age of 3 and 5 in soccer, football and basketball. Both have been members of their elementary school’s Running Club since Steven was 5 years old and Chad was 3 years old. They run 1-2 miles 2-3 mornings a week clocking in approximately 80-100 miles by the end of every school year. Running every morning was in addition to the particular sport that they had chosen to participate in for the season. Sports have been a great influence in their lives with their coaches having been very positive male role models. You see, their dad is in the U.S. Air Force and has been deployed to the Middle East most all their lives so their interests in sports has been a great way to have positive male role models in their lives & have them learn the sports they’re interested in.
I remember having visited Master Mehrdad’s Martial Arts and Muay Tai back in 2008 after passing by the company on a visit to a friend’s home in the nearby area. The boys have always shown an interest in Martial Arts so the company caught my two sons’ attention but unfortunately it was after hours so we weren’t able to get more information about classes or tour the company.
A couple of years passed with the boys being involved in other sports but we all still remembered Master Mehrdad’s. So back this past April we went back to Master Mehrdad’s and was able to view a class. Steven and Chad immediately wanted to enroll in Martial Arts with Master Mehrdad. Out of all the different Martial Arts facilities, it was Master Mehrdad’s company that stood out in our minds even with a couple of years passing by.
Steven and Chad absolutely love the classes! Their bodies and their minds are stronger because of what they are taught at Master Mehrdad’s. They take the teachings they learn from their instructors Soudabah & Shahnaz seriously. Both have been only had male coaches in the sports they have been involved in and now their instructors are female in a field that is predominately male. The boys now have strong, female influences in their lives outside of myself as their mom or their school teachers. Their instructors show the boys a side of females that they’ve never seen day-to-day. It’s great for them to see that aspect of life where there’s equality between males & females.
All that they have learned spills out into their everyday lives. They have caught themselves bowing in & out of their classrooms at school or unconsciously performing their Kung Fu form while standing at the grocery store with me. However, it is the respect, discipline & focus that they are being taught that has made the greatest impression on them. A close family friend we’ve known for over 8 years commented that Steven and Chad have been answering “Yes, Mam” to her a lot more lately. She stated that it was probably the military lifestyle of my husband that was influencing the kids more now that they’re older and understand better. I told her “No, it is what they’re taught at Master Mehrdad’s.”
Steven and Chad have learned so much in these past five months. They couldn’t have learned as much from any other company. They couldn’t have learn as much from any other instructors. The instructors see the level of commitment and desire the kids have and tailor what they teach to each individual child’s strengths so that each child can excel and want to learn even more. The classes and instructors are amazing!
