Martial Arts can be an important aspect of any child’s life and a good tool for parents struggling to give their child the boost in confidence he or she needs. In today’s world children are bombarded with peer pressure to fit in and to be on top. You see many children who are spread too thin and drained by the pressure to succeed. While there is nothing wrong with making sure the special child in your life is growing up to be a successful adult one day, there must be some balance.
This pressure can sometimes be too much for any child who just wants to play and explore what the world has to offer them. That is the beauty of Traditional Martial Arts it makes everyone equal, by teaching them that the journey they are taking is their own. This art is so perfect for children because it teaches them discipline, respect, honor, and the beauty of failing. Martial Arts is not easy, it is a sport that requires not only the full strength of your body, but the full strength of your mind and not everyone walks into a dojo with all that. A good teacher though and some hard work on the students part will one day give you that.
I saw a beautiful example of this when we tested some of our children students on Saturday morning. It was a hard test overseen by Master Mehrdad and the student’s two instructors Robert Smida and Soudabah Moayedi. Each child at some point did something wrong on that test or forgot something completely and each child stuck their head up and conquered. See Martial Arts has given them the feeling of failing at something already and it gave them the wonderful confidence of raising above the struggle and getting it right. Each child passed that day and as each child shook Master Mehrdad’s hand I knew they felt as proud as I did that day.
