Basic Self-Defense Techniques – In today’s world it is important to always equip yourself with the tools to push yourself forward in life even if those tools might be some basic self-defense techniques. Saturday August 1st Master Mehrdad’s Martial Arts, Muay Thai & Fitness hosted a Women’s Self-Defense seminar. It was on this rainy Saturday afternoon that women from many different walks of life came together for one common cause, they wanted to learn how to defend themselves against an attacker. Master Mehrdad joined by his higher ranking adult students and an officer from the community who so kindly was willing to be a part of the event, first talked to the women about how to not put themselves into a dangerous situation. The women were taught basic striking technique like elbows, knees, and front kicks as well as some basic Hapkido techniques to get out of the grasp of a would be assailant. The importance of basic self-defense is a must in today’s society where around every corner a possible attacker might be. But self-defense and Martial Arts is not just about learning how to beat some up or being the macho person on the street. Students who continue to take classes or seminars about self-defense not only have the knowledge to protect themselves they have the confidence and foresight to not put themselves in that type of situation in the first place. While Master Mehrdad is a big advocate for making not just women, but everyone aware of how easy self-defense can be learned and applied in any situation. He is an even bigger advocate of people finding the power within themselves to know when to walk away from a bad situation or even a toxic relationship. This was the big theme Master Mehrdad tried to get across and I think he did! The women when asked how they felt about the seminar at the end of the day unanimously said that the class was amazing and at the end of it they truly felt like they had been given the tools they needed to defend themselves. While it would be great to live in a world where no one would think to harm another human being, we must sadly realize that is not the case and equip ourselves with the tools needed to protect ourselves mentally and physically.
