Our first week with of our Strykerz Kidfit after school program is coming to a wonderful close. We are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic group of children hanging out with us after school. Alina and Leila who are already a part of our Traditional Martial Art program have joined us for our after school program as well. These two have shown such wonderful displays of leadership and are a great help to Xiomara and I! The younger ones love playing games with them and listen to them really well. Emily and Hunter are such wonderful kids who are willing to do or try anything we throw at them. Yesterday as I was teaching Hunter some basic self-defense technique I asked him if he was ready to learn, his reply was “I’m ready to do whatever you need me to do” he is a very talkative child with plenty of fun stories to tell us. Emily is my youngest child in this program and very sweet, she loves to run so we build obstacles courses for her to do to get rid of any leftover energy she has after school. Emily’s parents put her in this program to help her defend herself and build confidence. She has a really good round kick and love punching more than anything.
Xiomara has partnered with me to help give the kids the best possible time in our program. The children love her and enjoy doing the fun actives she has planned for them. They play games like Hot Potato, learn French/Spanish thru music, fun ball games and dramatization, do homework, and practice mediation and yoga. The children have already learned a few words in French like Bonjour (Hello), Je m’appelle (My name is) and Au revoir (Bye). Also they are learning the benefits of yoga early on in life. They are experimenting the benefits of lavender essential oil thru water mist and massage therapy. The yoga has really helped calm them down on days when they have more energy than normal it has also helped improve their martial arts. As part of our healthy program we offer delicious and healthy smoothies for the kids, these will always include chia seeds & coconut oil two special ingredients to boost the brain cells and help improve digestion. One of our kids said: “I don’t like fruits” as soon as we handed him the smoothie he drank it and was asking for MORE. It is very rewarding to see how the kids enjoy them! But more than that, know that these kids are getting a lot of nutrients into their bodies. Xiomara and I are happy that we have such a wonderful group of kids who are willing to try anything we do with them. We look forward to doing more and exciting things with the kids and helping them be the best they can be.
